16 years agoLevel 10Well, Looks like this guy is the next prez, cause Chuck said so! WASHINGTON (CNN) — It could be the latest so-called Chuck Norris fact: The American people don't choose presidents, Chuck Norris does. The cult hero of “Walker Texas Ranger†fame said Monday he’s backing Republican Mike Huckabee for president. “Though Giuliani might be savvy enough to lead people, Fred Thompson wise enough to wade through the tides of politics, McCain tough enough to fight terrorism and Romney business-minded enough to grow our economy, I believe the only one who has all of the characteristics to lead America forward into the future is ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee,†Norris wrote on the conservative Web site World Net Daily. “Mike is also a respected and fearless leader, and he does not cower to the cries of any majority or minority,†Norris added. “He doesn't abandon his values for what's expedient. Like our Founding Fathers, he's not afraid to stand up for a Creator and against secularist beliefs.†Huckabee’s campaign has not responded to a request for comment.

16 years agoLevel 3Yeah..., Huckabee voters should be prepared for a shiny new jebus cross on top of the capitol, and an attempt at a constitutional amendment completely disbanding the Supreme Court while vesting Article III powers in the National Conference of Baptist Ministers. "Working on the sabbath, that's a paddlin', Adulturin on a work night, that's a stoning."
I do have a juicy bit of information about his son at Boy Scout Camp, but I think I'll save that one until the price is right. -

16 years agoLevel 10Wait a minute that came out way!!!!!! wrong!

Level 2My Lord and Savior's name is Jesus not jebus. I find it somewhat amusing that those who claim we Christians are so hateful and intolerant are so hateful and intolerant to us. Not really directed at you Supafly, just a little irritated at a few other people right now.
-
16 years agoLevel 10i think its more directed at the supposed seperation of church and state...but whatever.
-
16 years agoLevel 3Yeah, no offense meant at all vaughan. I'm a Catholic myself (which I realize some of the uber-conservative Christian sects don't even consider Christian, but whatever). The "Jebus" thing is a Simpsons reference, and I firmly believe that God finds the Simpsons as entertaining as I do, even the pokes at religion. As you may or may not know, I'm a new lawyer, and most of my extracurricular law school studies were directed at constitutional law with particular emphasis on the First Amendment and Criminal Procedure (4th, 5th, 6th, and 14th). People like Huckabee scare me, regardless of my personal beliefs.
-
Level 2I was raised Catholic myself and but now am Baptist. I do find myself defending Catholics sometimes so I know what you mean. While I do agree with seperation of church and state, my main concern is this. While the US Constitution does make clear the seperationof church and state, I think its been interpreted far too liberally by the supreme court. For god's sake, the ACLU will sue you if you pray in school. Its freedom OF religion not freedom FROM religion.
-
16 years agoLevel 3Actually, the ACLU will and has defended the rights of students to pray in school. The ACLU and the Christian right, believe it or not, are frequently aligned on issues. The ACLU takes cases where the first amendment, as interpreted by the Supreme Court, is potentially violated. "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, nor prohibiting the free exercise thereof." The establishment clause has been interpreted to mandate neutrality towards religion, neither promotion nor prohibition (this is the freedom of/freedom from part).
I have not worked with the ACLU, but I am familiar with their policies and stances on key issues. The ACLU opposes mandated prayer time or "silent time" in schools (when attendance is mandatory). However, the ACLU also opposes public school bans on religious extracurricular groups using school facilities. Where attendance is voluntary, the free exercise clause is not violated by religious activities. This includes prayer during athletic events as well.
The ACLU is not anti-religion. The ACLU is pro-first amendment, which includes supporting the free exercise of religion. Quite frequently these issues are oversimplified by conservatives, and the ACLU gets an ultra-liberal reputation. The problem is that free exercise of religion is not a liberal-conservative issue, it's a constitutional issue. Another problem is that certain cases that the ACLU works on are sensationalized by the media because it makes for better news. The ACLU has done far more to promote freedom OF religion than most people are willing to recognize.
