16 years agoSat Jun 16 2007, 01:22AMLevel 1So tonight I witnessed for the first time, a bot user in UT. We always joke about it and hear about accounts from other people who've seen it, well tonight I saw it first hand. I've seen similar bots in Q3 vanilla, so maybe it was the same flavor. You guys know I'm not a noob. I'm fully convinced these two guys were botting, take it for what it's worth.
This account may be obvious to those who've seen (used?) them, but here's my story anyway.
We were playing on the WTG? pure server - no PB. Two players, 'iownu' and 'champion' were playing with both 250 pings. They said they were on TS, but I suspect they were on the same LAN next to each other. Both were at the top of the team in points in the full 24 player server. When the server thinned out, a couple of people went spec. They voted to kick the specs for no apparent reason. The reason was obvious to me later on. One thing that was very strange is they both disconnected together after each map. I don't know if this was intentional or a 'feature'. After watching both of them go on unbelievable shooting sprees, I went spec. The first thing I noticed was shortly after going spec and chasing them, iownu's mouse pointed straight up to zenith. During this time he was playing well and I didn't see anything unusual. He's a decent player mind you, but no crazy shooting sprees. Then about 5 minutes into it, on respawning his mouse went straight up to zenith again. His mouse sensitivity was definitely much higher, to a point where he was really whipping around the screen. Then came the sprees... His crosshair would whip across the screen, dead on target (accounting for his 250 ping) and almost every single shot fired was on. Then with a target down, his crosshair would whip around to another target, dead on then target down. I'm not talking about mad UT skills, he was doing 180's right on target and the crosshair was a solid lock (not wandering a little as it normally should). I didn't say anything to him, figured there wasn't anything to do about it, and that was that.
So here's my hypothesis on how I think this thing works. It's either scriptable or command line executable and can be turned on/off easily in game. The mouse jump to zenith is a default position when he turns it on/off. The bot has the ability to track a target on key bind, where the user decides to fire. When active it tracks the closest target and looks-ahead dependent on ping. I have no idea how it might do this, as I would think the look-ahead would need to be consistent and calibrated. Perhaps it sets an artificially higher ping to meet those conditions.
Anyway, thought I'd like to share my story. Yes, I should have demo'd, but I got the command wrong and thought it was recording. What's the command anyway in UT?
Anyone else got bot stories/theories? -
16 years agoLevel 5I choose option #3....
Yes, some peeps are using some sort of something, to be specific. IO version has no antihax protection and people know that, so the retards try to take advantage. -
16 years agoLevel 10I believe there are some, but the bots that they are using aren't good enough to discourage me from playing. I think it is a little more challenging, but there are still a lot of players in UrT that are better than those using the hax.
Once 4.1 comes out, hopefully Battle Eye will be functional or some other anti hax stuff.
You didn't have to edit your post KanxeR. -
16 years agoLevel 10I have seen 1st hand a bot being use on me and others in 3.7 on the superman 247 server. i specked him and every shot was a head shot (sr8) while people were jumping from building to building. i still owned him cause im sneaky, but it was no doubt a lock on script. im pretty sure PB would have no idea if a script (.exe) was running or not.

16 years agoLevel 10nothing confirmed in 4.0 though. i have played against peeps that seemed way too good to be true. very few deaths, sky high scores, one shot kills. skills that would raise eyebrows but nothing totally obvious.

16 years agoFri Jun 15 2007, 06:57PMLevel 1i edited it because i didn't want to perpetuate FUD, but everything i said in the story i just confirmed to be true. i'll edit it back when i get home later. or maybe just share what i know in subsequent posts. i'm talking with the developer of the bot right now, and downloaded it. this hack is slick and VERY REAL. cant actually try it though (PC only). it works on 4.0 non-PB and BE servers. currently doesn't work on PB servers, at least for now.

16 years agoLevel 5Not what I wanted to hear....but what can you do? As long as we have games and a-holes, we'll have hax.
-
Level 5Heard it on good authority - gHOstFaCe has been spec'd using a dance bot at the disco!! =)

16 years agoLevel 10what you have described is the Diversity aimbot. Its a pretty badly coded bot it snaps really fast to targets and locks on them untill you fire , it randomly causes the user to spawn aimed straight up and yes its biggy so after a map it crashes them out of game.
Classic signs of the diversity bot, but dont worry its easy for admins to pick out and after BE has coded the guid system for iourt it will detect hacks, the guy has done anti cheat for many other games in the past and has proven himself good at it. -
16 years agoLevel 5Yeah, I'm busted! My disco hax it teh uber leet!
Since it is easier to kill in 4.0, a hax wouldn't have to hit all head or torso to be effective. Is it possible to have a random hitting hax? Not meaning some bullets hit and some don't, just one that can hit Arms, torso, torso, or torso, arms, legs, ect....so it doesn't look so obvious....
