12 years agoLevel 10Does anyone have some good resources for getting started with radiant. I would love to start making maps but don't know where to start.

12 years agoLevel 10if you are using Windows 7... actually, if you are using any OS other than Win XP, feel free to ask for help in TS3. There are several versions of Radiant to consider, pros and cons for all. The only currently active fork is NetRadiant (I use it with Win7x64), but there are mappers that prefer older versions.
If you have a spare 30-60 mins, I should be able to help you get your first working map going. I would suggest not doing anything until chatting though; there seem to be a boatload of "do this, do not do that" things when installing and setting it all up.
To start, create a new directory called "mapping" or "q3mapping" or similar type name. If you are using Windows, download 7zip if you do not have it already; other Zip utilities should be okay, but I know 7zip is fine. Install a second UrT there in it's own subdirectory (ie, ../mapping/urban terror/). Preparing this UrT install is key: you will need to unzip the zz*.pk3 files IN PLACE (retaining directory structure). Then install your choice of GTKRadiant.
Setting up Radiant can be interesting. There are also some cleaning tasks to do in the UrT install after unzipping. Also, adding the "bumpy client" stuff for UrT is a good idea IMO. Do not forget to grab the 4.1.1 UrT, drop in the mapping ut4 dir and unzip in place as well. -

Sho 'nuff! Seriously.. just ask, will help out. But, just a warning: I tend to get drawn out and pedantic at times, so please know I am not offended, and actually appreciate, when I am halted and informed of this. Seriously- just stop me and tell me I am overdoing it :)
