Memory Leak with AMD since upgrade to win 8

SG, Mon Mar 02 2015, 03:19PM

hi guys,

I have hit the "memory leak" trouble with AMD driver since I have updraged to windows 8. I have resinstalled all from scratch and everything is up-to-date.

After 2 ou 3 game switch (at the end of the game, the new map is reloading, 1x 2x ...) my memory is 98% full (started at 37% before the game, 68% during 1st game) and of course game became very laggy. After that I have to reboot.

It seems to be a very known issue with AMD driver in BF community. ATI is aware of this and will relase a fix in next driver coming ..... (soon ?)

The only 100% workaround I found is to go out of the game just at the end, before the new one load. But what about staying in your squad, in the same team.... So I am trying to find a acceptable workaround to be able to stay in game.

Do you guys encountered this, and do you know something better, because right now I am bored going out of the game or reboot when i forget to do so.... ?

good news and bad news.
In today BF4 patch, description say: "few corrections for AMD mantle driver users". And yes, playing with this patch and in 32b mode seems for me to have resolved the memory leak trouble.
The sad thing is: I am now back to several game crashs during the day.
:-(

SG - apologies that I didn't respond in game but you were offline. So sorry that you're facing these issues. Wish there was something else you could do 'cept for using Intel inside. Soon enough your fix will be released. Hang in there and play more Urt instead! :-)

I found something. I revert back to game in 64b mode and as i saw in a forum set the 2 executables bf4.exe and bf4_x86.exe to compatibility mode for windows 7 (right click properties all user set compatibility there) . No more memory leak tonight ! I hope it will stay like that !

Do you loose any FPS ? When you do that because windows 8 is supposed to give you a boost of 3% over windows 7. You can run heaven benchmark on each configuration to find out.

no. It is a well kwown trouble (see url in my previous post) with specific condition Windows 8.1, amd 6950 mainly. My computer was previously on windows 7 with the exact same hardware. It just happened after I have reinstalled from scratch with W8.1 AND after the last game patch (beginning of March if i remember well).

I can say now that setting the BF4 exe in windows 7 compatibility mode did the trick for me. I never had a memory leak again (task manager always up now when i play to monitor it).
I do not know about the FPS loss, i did not notice anything about my fps, which are mostly over 80 all the time, but i could make a try with upper video settings which I do not have set since I had troubles.

Anyway it is stable since 3 days with compatibility to Windows 7, i was not able to play 3 rounds without rebooting, if harware was the faulty part it won t have make the trick.

I am happy with that and get ready to see me more often in BF4 !
