Skype is pretty cheap. Check out Google Wave too. Plus, since there are a lot of peepz w/ smartphones and unlimited data, check if they have skype as well, you could just call'em for free.

I use a Magicjack. I love it, have the iphone app attached to the same number. Unlimited local and long distance in Canada and the US. 5 years 70 bucks. Heck of a deal!!

I use 3CXPhone every day. it is free and SIP protocol compatible, so can be used for almost every VOIP provider. I have no more wired "land" phone line at home since 2y now and my provider in voip.ms. It cost me almost nothing. I did plug a "normal" home line to voip converter for 60$ and still use my old phone wired line in home with that. I did replace my business phone syst for a asterisk open system with SIP. If you want some more info please contact me, I know this now a lot. I have few sub account so I have a 3CXphone at job connected to my VOIP provider and then received home call at job. 3cxphone is compatible with windows / iphone / android

not what dank is looking for, but since we are on the subject of free calls...

Facebook is rolling out free calls from it's messenger app. You can call any one of your FB friends from within the iphone fb app without using minutes.

I used Icall while on vaca. It is a kick ass easy to use internet phone application. Couple limitations the free version limits to 5 minutes and only works with domestic calls even when abroad.

Don't know if you're still looking Dank, but I've always used Google voice since you can do it from inside gmail from on a computer and it's free anywhere in the US or Canada (AFAIK). If you want to do it from a land line phone using your internet connection for free, get an OBi for $40 and follow their instructions. Free incoming and outgoing calls in NA for as long as Google Voice is free.
