As you know...for a long time the time limit was 6 minutes. This has been reduced to two. Just wondering how you all feel about it.

I didn't like it at 2 minutes at first but I kind of like it now. Games feel like they go a lot faster and the team that is winning can't just hide the flag and drag the match on until they win.

It's tough, as different games demand a different time, which is of course impossible! I chuckled that 6 minutes wasn't given as an option in the poll, but having given 2 mins a chance I do agree that shorter than 6 mins would work, as low as 2 mins does take something away from the game though - it was designed as a huge map with a few hidey holes on purpose of course.

I have been enjoying the 2 minute potato lately, but I think it can be more a function of how many players are on each team.

When the server is full or nearly so, the short potato time keeps the game moving fast. (sometimes too fast perhaps)
And when teams are say 4vs4 or fewer, there is less boring standoff time.
Unfortunately, when teams are mid-sized, two minutes often isn't quite enough time to track down the flag.

My vote:
2 - 7 players in server = 2 minutes
8 - 13 = 3 minutes
14+ = 2 minutes

I've seen stuff similar to that done on some other servers. The timelimit/caplimit would change based on the number of players. I think they did it through b3, but i'm not sure.

i agree with risk too, and i also can't imagine b3 would have trouble with doing that. i'm pretty sure i could make a plugin to do that if one doesn't exist.

(i do like the short time on what would otherwise be boring "no real action" matches.)

3 minutes.
enough for one side to get a safe place for it and for the other team to track it and get it back.
2 mins too short for newbies, bad jumpers and BanMe's.
4-5 minutes could be much too long if people start playing 'doorgames' - hiding behind doom or anywhere.

Sometimes there are 4 or 5 players sitting in spec. I would hate to see that influence the time limit.

Seen this too. I **think** it's those 'best of Z best servers' if anyone wants to pursue this further. From a players perspective it confuses me when suddenly the timelimit or caplimit changes dynamically mid-game. Not that it takes much to confuse me, but they don't even BIGTEXT the changes so sometimes you miss it. Kewl concept but I'm not a fan.

Looks like 3 mins is the happy middle ground. Good news is that it can easily be changed!

Yeah. Three minutes seems to be the happy middle ground for most situations. Usually there are enough decent people on the server to compensate for the noobie "rubberneckers". Now that I've spent some time at two minutes, going to four just seems too long.

When there are 20+ players I would prefer a shorter time, as there are plenty of teammates to check the various hiding places, but Boogie brings up a good point.
How would the number of spectators affect the player count?

man this map's concepts have only just begun.
i will never say anything like this in public w/o saying wily made something special,
BUT this just goes to show we need more superman style maps.
i tried learning map making and im sub par.
i sometimes imagine using fund raising to pay someone.
where am i going with this ? idk

big maps with directed arrows.
and pros modify the direction.
that's the recipe.

voted for 2, really should be 1min tho, this is a game of speed, not hiding or heaven forbid dropping the flag off the side of the building. a cap should take no longer than 15 seconds.

Keep in mind that most players who are relatively new or even medium skills players do not make all the jumps that some of you guys do. They still take the arrow to the garage, land on truck, maybe scope out things while they grab a breath, and then go back to base. Or they go the doom route. A low time would eventually discourage newer players and the population of the server would fall off.

The hot potato timer only starts when both flags are taken. Non pro superman players are usually not hiders or keep away tacticians, so the 2 min has no bearing. It's a style of play that people adjust to.

Frankly this poll is unnecessary. I only set it to 2 minutes for a change of pace. We can set it back and forth and try different things. We don't need a resounding poll of permanence to determine the final hot potitty time.

I had already put it back to three minutes before this thread started, but because it wasn't written to the config file, it reverted back. I'll check with the powers that be, learn how to do it properly and the problem will be solved. And then, when I'm on, we'll set it to 5 second hot potitty.

I feel the need! The need for speed!

I think the poll served a good purpose in finding what the players opinions were. As requested the map cycle file has been updated to use 3 mins. If you guys want 4, as the poll suggests, let me know.

two min hot poratos was such an advantage to the experienced "self proclaimed" pro's that it drove off new players. No wonder they were for it. The server is already showing more life after the change to 3 min.

Honestly with such a big map and so many places, you really do not want anything more then 3 min. Makes for a very slow game.

Oh and lol to whoever changed the cap limit to 21!
We hit 20 the other day and right as we capped I left my pc, got a drink, came upstairs to my pc only to see we lost 21 - 20!

I think finding the FC is part of the game, and therefore prefer a longer potato time, but it doesn't really work on a server full of noobs who don't understand that they actually need to do something...
