Superman experiement

Reflux, Fri Oct 28 2011, 06:13PM

We're going to test a theory this weekend and we need your feedback. For the weekend, we're going to relocate the SM server to observe the playability for everybody. If you could let us know if you thought the server seemed better or worse, and what it was you noticed different, we would very much appreciate it.

It will be listed as "FSK405 Superman 24/7 Chicago II" and you can also connect to it via
/connect sm.fsk405.com

Please join up and provide feedback. The current SM server will be taken offline for the weekend.

Very nice. It runs smooth! My ping may be a little higher, but hits are there and making my jumps. Go Superman!

It's good. Runs really smooth.

Would love to agree with the rest, but playing from NYC, the ping a little high and not that stable - vacillated between 98 and 116. You can sense the lag/delay when playing - but I could get used to it eventually. Saw a few tiny server shark fins in the net graph too - but nothing serious. There were about 10 players on at the time.

Will report back again if I get the chance to get on it again.

Oh, and I couldn't find it using Qtracker - used the console.

The netgraph had some tiny shark fins this afternoon. I checked some other west coast servers first but the connection was fine there. There were only 4 of us on so it wasn't overloaded.

connection seemed ok for me. the 95 ping from chicago to cali sucks though

I was getting a similar graph to BanMe's. There were groups of 4 or 5 blue downward pointing fins but they were separated by a small space in between the groups.

Played nicely from the U.K. Not great ping but very playable.

XsmoKer still smelled kinda bad though.

Solid ping but steady shark fins.

My impression so far: the big lag spikes & CIs are gone, but the ping increased quite noticeably (100/120 -> 180/200+).
No red lines or large shark fins, though there is a constant flow of smaller ones and the gameplay feels a bit wobbly overall - like a constant, slight lag. Playable & better than before but not perfect.

EDIT: Just played a bit on the Texan CTF server. Boy, what a difference! Also got a little higher ping around 180 but no lag whatsoever. If we ever get Superman to run that smoothly I'm happy.

cheers

Only one player on the server (me)
Ping vacillated from 88 to 136
Top and bottom netgraphs choppy

Not better for me. I have low lag with shark fins and my ping has doubled from low 50s to 110s.

--- sm.fsk405.com ping statistics ---
100 packets transmitted, 100 packets received, 0.0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 15.018/22.916/174.374/16.043 ms
OMG my ping flux is HORRIBLE! I keep going from 20 to 39!!!!!!!

B3 is inoperable on the server. I have witnessed a lot more warping on the new server, but no lag of my own.

I am in the same boat as Tink, pings vary from 22 to35. The Horror!! ;-)

I know the latency on my end is good, but I swear the hits are just as bad or worse. I wonder if it's not a server config thing? Maybe you've got some time nudge crap going on.
Re: Superman experiement
BanMe, Sun Oct 30 2011, 05:15PM

Add in a shit load of warp to what i was getting last time. Everything felt smooth on my end but everyone else looked like they were teleporting around.

Food for thought. I noticed that hits were different, maybe because I've gotten used what has become "normal" on the superman server? I am able to make hits on events that I never could before. That has been very nice. The little tiny shark fins go away after a restart, but come back within a few hours of running. hmmm I did turn g_antiwarp off 'cause I HATE the lurching. Gonna look at other settings we can tweak, but there is so little real documentation on the server settings.
