Blu-Ray playback

:$:Guardian, Sat Jul 17 2010, 03:19PM

All right, so, I'm trying to find a definitive guide on how to install a Blu-Ray drive on your computer and what steps need to be taken in order to play BR on said player. So far, I've got a BR player, latest firmware. Updated my graphics card, which is compatible, according to this website. I have a GTX 260M. I've downloaded these drivers, the latest VLC, and unfortunately even downloaded PowerDVD 10 Mark II, which reports it can play even 3D Blu-Rays.

Results: VLC still returns an error,

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd://D:\'. Check the log for details.

Log: Frickin' blank.

Results: PowerDVD loads and loads and loads and loads and loads and loads.....
....oh, and typically shuts off my Aero effect.

Total ROLF ghozt, and a classic response from Guardian. Love it. But seriously, check for the MS Fax printer that gets installed by default on all systems.

OK, so if you don't already know ... Blu-Ray is is a patented technology, which is why we're forced to buy Power DVD and why M$ wouldn't included play back support in WMP. Assshats. That being said, your Power DVD should have been all you needed without the extra codecs.

Are you bringing that chic back with you?

@ Reflux: That's stupid. The whole copyright thing. Don't these people know no one cares about copyright laws anymore? Also, what girl?

@ Glad: I'll still whoop all y'alls, and y'all's is gunna be like, Man, Guard is SOO cool, we should have added him months ago. You'll see!

ok, I've Google'd this thing and see many many many problems. Alot of people have only solved it with different BR disks.. and that only works sometimes. also are you sure it's been flashed correctly to the latest firmware? and can you return it =)

I can't find the newest firmware in the ENTIRE INTERWEBZ. Not even Panasonic has their own bloody firmware. And it reads just fine! I think! I mean I can open the directories just like any other optical drive can on DVDs.

so it just wont play the blu-ray video?

Also is the laptop as a whole HDCP compliant?

Correct. And I THINK so. Gateway FX P-7915u. I know my graphics card is supportive, and my CPU, mobo, and RAM should be plenty.

hehe. We DID add you months ago... but you were in a foxhole (or an air-conditioned office complex commiserating with hot chicks) in Iraq at the time.
