Razor mouse worth the money?

BanMe, Mon Mar 01 2010, 09:12PM

I've been using the basic black microsoft mouse for the last year and a half. I've been looking at getting this mouse
http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.171793100/categoryId.35208800

Im a little hesitant to spend $80 for a mouse. Is it really worth that much money? Will it last long?

Did you look on ebay for this same mouse? Might be cheaper. There are other decent gaming mice that are less, I think. I got the DeatAdder and am happy with it but have not really fooled around much with the dpi and other settings. Finally got my knife to work with one of the buttons. It was easy (once you know what to do).

Bunch of us use various models of Razor. IMO... WELL worth it!! I would not use any other mouse unless I could really give it a good try for a bit for free.

That said.. some prefer the Logitech ones. I forget the one I bought at the same time as my Razor (to compare). It has weights in it, so the user can change the feel. Still preferred the Razor, hands down (pun intended!)

I bought a Copperhead (Razer) about five weeks ago...had to return it because it broke (no fault of the manufacturer). Newegg refunded my money instead of replacing the mouse. So I bought the Razer Imperator, which is what your link goes to, and I like it VERY MUCH!!! 5600 dpi down to 800 dpi...this mouse is off the hook! It fits in my hand very nicely! I highly recommend this mouse but you MUST, and I mean this is an absolute must, you MUST get the Razer eXactMat with wrist rest to go with your mouse!!! The difference between with and without the "Mat" is so indescribably night and day you will wonder how you were able to ever use a mouse without one of these mouse pads!

Good luck! And YES, it is worth every penny you will spend!!!

I just jumped on a "Logitech G500 10 Buttons Dual-mode Scroll Wheel USB Wired Laser 5700 dpi Gaming Mouse" for $57 w/ free shipping from NewEgg. (and a new monitor & vid card...buhbye on-board graphics- buhbye $8 optical POS mouse) We shall see...

Little how are the two side buttons? Do they stay in place or move around easily? Are they over sensitive, could you click them on accident?
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
DankRider, Tue Mar 02 2010, 03:03PM

Sadly im dependent on my CopperHear Razer mouse. I say sadly for im on my 4th copperhead for after time they have all become defective. Mind you im not overly abusive to the mouse it has been the buttons and the optics that have become defective.

- If you are to buy a razer mouse there are only 2 that you should consider.

-- Boomslang Limited addition: if you have a large hand
-- Copperhead: if you have a regular size hand.

Note: the Razer Imperator you are looking at purchasing appears to be a solid solution with superior specs to the Copperhead.. One big thing to consider is the side button location. It appears the Imperator's side buttons are above the finger/thumb resting location.

Note: As littlefoot indicated. If you purchase a high def mouse a good mouse pad is essential.
Pro's and Cons _ I own both of these:
- Razer ExactMate: Is hard aluminum with a option for a Speed or Control surface.
(Im unable to use this pad, not only is it cold and uncomfortable i tend to lift my mouse. Lifting your mouse even a 1/8th of an inch will distort the optics causing erratic movements.)
- Razer Goliethius: Is a soft mouse pad with a ribbed texture. This mouse pad comes in multiple sizes with either a Control or Speed surface. I bought the control surface. By far the best mouse pad i have used.

NOTE: high end gamers tend to prefer the Eactmate. If you enjoy playing on a hard cold surface running your hand over a Truck bed spray liner type surface(Rhino Liner), this is the pad for you. If you like a softer approach the Goleithius has the benefit of the Exactmate with a softer feel.

-= Overview Suggestion =-
- The Imperator looks like a great option though it is definitely overkill for UrT, with a heavy sticker price.
- You can get a Razer Copperhead for 40-50 bucks along with a good mouse pad for under 30.00. This option could give you a solid gaming mouse and surface for the same price as the Imperator.

I have the copperhead and it is a good mouse, nice software package, been using it about 4 yrs now
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
Littlefoot, Tue Mar 02 2010, 10:05PM

The "thumb" buttons ARE above the thumb and can be moved forward or backward on the mouse. They move by way of a slide on the bottom of the mouse which is somewhat difficult to move. As far as the button's sensitivity, I have more problems with them when I'm NOT in game than when I'm in game...that could have something to do with the fact that I haven't bound anything to them in game yet.

For the most part, I like the Imperator over the Copperhead because it fits in my hand better, I like the way it feels better than the Copperhead. Also, the Copperhead has the DPI adjust buttons on the right side of the mouse, where your pinky finger is, and are difficult to use, or at least they were difficult for me to use because I have small hands. On the Imperator the DPI buttons are right behind the wheel/mouse3 button...I don't inadvertently change DPI settings in the heat of a battle like I did with the Copperhead, but it is still easy to do so if I need too.

So, for me, even though the Imperator costs more, it was worth it.

BanMe, Tue Mar 02 2010, 11:09PM

There's only one problem with it that I've read. When you pick up the mouse and set it back down the cursor moves to the bottom right. Is it really that bad? Do you notice it in game? I play at a low sensitivity so i pick up my mouse frequently.

Thanks for all the input it's helped a lot =)

deleted-user, Tue Mar 02 2010, 11:43PM

I've got their DeathAdder (name a mathematician can love) and it's pretty good. I can't imagine a better mouse (maybe more buttons?)
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
LadyHellfire*, Wed Mar 03 2010, 12:16AM

Bingo- DeathAdder here too. If it broke now, I would want another of the same, no need to even try another for me unless it was built the same with better specs... and even then I would be skeptical...

- The problem you are reading about applies to all optical mice. If you have a hard surface/mouse pad with a 2000+ DPI mouse, it will be unforgiving as you lift the mouse off the pad resulting in erratic movements.
- Simply put the Razer Imperator, is only as good as the surface you use with it along with your playing style. If your going to spend the high bucks for the mouse you also need an appropriate mouse pad. -- Mind you the Imperator is overkill for UrT.
- Picking a mouse these days comes down to ergonomics and DPI. You have many options for a mouse.

-=Danks Mouse Pad Info=-
Gaming pads are typically made of fabric or a hard surface such as aluminum. Hard surface pads tend to be more precise but less forgiving.
Mouse Pads I Own:
ExactMat - If you lift your mouse while gaming, you may experience erratic movements . - Note: Hard surface pads are rated the best for high end gaming.
Goliathious - If you lift you mouse while gaming - Goliathious comes in multiple sizes with optional surfaces, Control or Speed and does not become erratic if the mouse is lifted.

I just got a new mouse pad about a month ago i'm not sure who made it. Its pretty soft, not one of those hard plasticy ones. Not sure how this compares to the Goliathious but it seems pretty nice.

What do you mean by overkill for Urt?
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
Squrl, Fri Mar 05 2010, 08:30PM

I have had the Razer Lachesis for a while now and I too have the same problem Dank does....I tend to lift my mouse up while playing. It may have a lot to do with the fact that I have a hard surface mouse pad. Honestly I am not happy with my razer that I paid $80 for and am considering the Logitech G9 or something similar.
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
Gladi8r, Fri Mar 05 2010, 09:26PM

Logitech G500 came today. Wow.

Played with the buttons, resolution, etc. This is not your mama's mouse.

Only problem with it is when I go into a game and start playing, it looks up at me, scowls, and I'm pretty sure I can hear it mumble 'freakin noob...' just before it accelerates all on it's own and kills 3 enemies.
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
BanMe, Sat Mar 06 2010, 05:43PM

Ordered the mouse and the Goliathious. CompUSA has their mouse pads $5 cheaper and they gave me free shipping. =)

DankRider, Wed Mar 31 2010, 06:50PM

After all my ranting about my mouse knowledge everything changed when I bought a 5600 DPI mouse.

- Unfortunatly I Left Clicked too many times so i was forced to purchase a new mouse.

- I first bought the Razer Imperator. The imperator preformed amazing in game play, but sadly the the stance of the mouse was off from the way I hold the mouse. The Imperator has a defined notch for your thumb raising it off the mouse pad. I prefer to slide my thumb slightly on the mouse pad for control. I returned the mouse strictly on how it conformed to my hand.
link to mouse: http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.171793100/categoryId.35208800

-- Then I stepped it up and bought the Razer Momba. The Momba has the same stats as the Imperator but can be used wired or wireless and the stance is more like the Death adder/slightly thicker than the copperhead. This mouse is over the top so far I have nothing but good things to say about it.

my in game sensitivity is .6 with the momba.. Used to be 2.3 with the copperhead.
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?

at 1700 my sensetivity is 1 at 5600 i have to use .2. Whenever i have it set to a higher DPI, if i make a fast movement halfway across the pad my crosshair only moves 1/3 the distance it should. It doesnt do that at 1700. Does this happen with yours?

-=Mouse Install Instructions / Notes =-
When you install a high precision gaming mouse to be used in a game such as UrT, there are 3 mouse speed adjustments you need to be aware of.

Try following these 3 steps:

1 - Open the proprietary control panel that came with your mouse and set the speed to max DPI & HZ.
(For the Momba thats 5600DPI @ 1000Hz)

2 - Open Windows mouse control panel and adjust the sensitivity so your mouse speed is to your liking on the desktop.
(Go into the control panel and adjust the windows mouse setting)

3 - Load Urban Terror and adjust the sensitivity until it is to your liking in game.
( In Game Console command to adjust the sensitivity - /sensitivity )

Note:
- Your goal is to bypass the dependency of windows and Urban Terrors mouse speed control, relying on the true precision of the mouse.
- Also try to avoid using Mouse acceleration.

That worked well. I didn't have to touch in game senetivity at all.

I have been a razor addict for years i have had many diamondbacks and copperhead also might I add refereed by Dank. It was a Little bit big so when the scroll wheel broke bought another diamondback. I used it up and am using the Naga wired its great feels good and has 1-12 buttons to use way to many really. My main problem is cfg for urt I use my numbers so if i hit them i spam chat. Way to go though in my eyes it has replaces my infamous diamondback!.

Very fast way to switch to knife for those hand to hand combat situations.

Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
Boogie Knight, Sat Nov 20 2010, 07:40PM

For some reason I couldn't bind the weapon directly to mouse 4 or 5. I had to use the advanced menu in the death adder to configure button 4 for keyboard 1.
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
ZELLIS, Sat Nov 20 2010, 09:01PM

same here. I have a death added and i had to map mouse buttons 4 and 5 to keystrokes in order to bind them to a function in UT. my mouse button 4 and 5 mapped to keys L and K that have been bind to reload and weapon toggle think the problem is UT and not the mouse. it works fine for all my other games, only issue is on UT
Re: Razor mouse worth the money?
Boogie Knight, Sun Nov 21 2010, 09:46AM

Yep. I don't think they had 5 button mice when they made UrT. Only 3. So can only bind those 3 directly. Maybe, if 4.2 comes out before I pass to that big map in the sky (behind the clouds somewhere), they will fix that.
