It seems like I did some research on this not too long ago...let me get back with you on this.

I know you can use Xfire to record your demos and it automatically saves as an .avi....

Hmmm...i think we discussed that in the superman thread and Acetone had the answer. The old posts have been removed after 100 pages so I can't access that anymore. I t was really simple. You just had to type something when you start to watch the demo that you want to convert.

Weird...the link took me to the actual superman thread and I scrolled down like Zim said and there was the thread of all the old posts.
The thing is, I liked the answer that I had seen because it was something you could do within UrT without needing or using other programs.

Yes, it's /video while viewing the demo and /stopvideo to stop. There are other settings (I guess) to set the framerate. This converts the demo while you view it and appears to be in slow motion while converting. Don't forget to close the console or it will show up in your video.

Thanks for all the assistance it appears Woekely's instructions seem to work quite well:

Procedure:
-Recorded a demo on a server.
-Set quality settings in video card control panel to high (Anti Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, etc.)
-Started ioUrbanTerror, turned off full screen, set to 800x600 resolution and set all settings to high and turned off some interface stuff, like lagometer and fps-indicator. Set cl_avimotionjpeg to 1 (set to 0 if you want it to produce uncompressed, which is huge but higher quality) and cl_aviframerate to 25. Bound video to F7 and stopvideo to F8. Set r_gamma to 1.8. Used a compile of ioUrbanTerror that does gamma correction, even when r_overbrightbits is 0 (will be publicly available starting at 4.1).
-Played back the demo, and used F7 and F8 to record the video0000.avi, which is about 1.8GB).
-Loaded the video0000.avi in Adobe Premiere and did editing (cutting/music/effects/intro) and exported it as uncompressed (both audio and video) .avi with 25 frame rate and 800x600 resolution, which created a 7GB .avi file. Interleaved audio every second and used max precision in the key framing options. Could have used a compression directly from Premiere, but it didn't work properly for me.
-Loaded the 7GB .avi in virtual dub and compressed it to xvid and mp3. Did some experimenting with what bit rate gave the quality I wanted while maintaining a reasonable file size.

danks Notes: The Demos are huge. But all and all the process is quite easy

This is an infinitely more useful post than I've found on urbanterror.net and through google/the forums, Dank, thanks!

How long were your demos? Several minutes? I don't remember the settings I used for my superman demos, but I do remember the resulting videos being less than a gig. (Pretty sure I turned off a lot of the anti aliasing and decreased the FPS/screen size.)

- I created a demo roughly 3 minutes at 640x800 and it was about 200 megs. may want to use a custom size such as 320x400 to reduce the file size.

here is my first UrT Avi demo.. had no idea it could be so easy.
