How do i get better
BanMe, Sat Jan 17 2009, 12:06PMI feel like i've plateaued over the last 3 months. I put my gun on target but no hits. Ive wasted an entire clip for one kill. All i can hit is arms and legs I want to get better but it seems like i cant. is there anything i can practice.

start playing more on the pub server and get off of superman. there are good players on superman, but a lot of them are just good on that map. the pub server will put you up against the better players and more diverse situations. its not all about shooting and aim, yes that's a good part of it but there is so much more to it. can you circle jump? do you know how to jump off cornered wall to evade getting scammed when healing or reloading? do you know the fastest / safest routes to return the flag? hiding with the flag? evading the other team to get to the flag with full health. try specking some of the players on the pub and See what they do. when firing, try to aim for the head!!! use short burst of fire, it is more accurate. just some quick things to think about if you don't already do/know them.

-Short bursts of 3 shots, pause VERY briefly, another burst, etc will improve accuracy over firing large numbers of rounds, which lose accuracy after 3 shots.
-Using the proper crosshairs helps a lot- I like the very small green dot in the center with detached hairs- put the dot on their chest/head and send lead.
Practice strafing- I actually practice aiming full-time, even when not firing... I pick a point on the map, like a teammate, something on a wall, etc, and try to keep my crosshairs on it while running, jumping, and moving side to side randomly. If you use a teammate and color-changing crosshairs, you can tell when you're on or off target more easily. Be careful, though- noobs may think youre about to TK them and tk you first... hehehe.
- When fighting more than one enemy in close quarters, try to put one of them between you and the second one. Draw them into a crossfire situation.
- Be completely aware of who/what/where- If you are able to monitor who died or was wounded, and can figure out where they were, you can put yourself in advantageous situations; 2 enemies that are wounded healing each other- pop out and get both; You know that 3 guys died a few seconds ago, go toward their spawn and give em a 'welcome back'; intercept rather than chase- this one is great on superman, since there are so many ways to get around the map quickly, and intercepting is usually more of a surprise, since they may be expecting you to follow; change tactics, especially against good players- once they figure out what/where/when on you, you're toast- be unpredictable; know your team's status at all times- flag carrier needs cover, two guys just headed for enemy base, 3 guys just died protecting your flag, etc- your teams status not only tells you their status, but also what the enemy is up to and where he is by proxy; use cover when available, but only when it doesn't mess up your abilty to strafe- running in the open? try going a slightly longer route, but circle jumping and sliding behind even small cover items helps to screw up enemy's aim; always assume enemy can see you, or knows where you are- duck in, wait a sec, then duck back out while they think you went ahead; if you see an lone enemy out of your peripheral vision, let them think you didn't see them and continue behind cover, when they follow, be ready to nail their ass when they come around corner, through door, etc.
-When you get as good as sheila,dolt,zellis, etc, etc- give me some pointers- I need em too :-)

yeah i agree with Gladi8r Zellis and B. but what i have to say is to set goals for yourself, and practice on FFA servers. like tell yourself you wana get like 30 kills in 1 round. also work with different weapons to see which one you are good with.

I agree with B, and second using only a DE. Personally, this tactic has helped improve my aim and kill ratio significantly. Headshots are much more frequent - but not by luck. Even at 75-100 yards the DE is effective. It must be used with timing and patience, with the idea that whatever business must be accomplished must be done in that first shot (your intention may not necessarily be a kill shot!). You can always follow up quickly with 6 re-affirming shots, as a devastator to a plan in action. A DE both hones and enforces your unsighted sure-shot skills.
This is a weapon that requires you to learn or die.

don't get desperate. just like everyone said above, e shor burst it the best. from a distance i do single to double shots with the G36 if i know it a for sure kill. someone else also touched on situational awareness. this is a major skill to master. you need to see everyone at once. if you spot multiple player, you need to remember where they are and where they are going. if they are in close proximity, you need to judge who to take out 1st, 2nd then 3rd. sometimes you let them go as well.

So just keep practicing on Pubs like B mentioned and i wouldn't consider starting with an AK so fast, you gatta be pretty damn accurate with that, so i'd say in order you should try: G36 > M4A1 + Laser > LR300 + Laser or Silencer > Sr-8 > DE + laser > AK + Laser > (once you think ur ready) try AK w/o laser

Try increasing the size of your crosshair. I find that helps a bit. The added thickness lets you pinpoint better the centre of the crosshair, which you can use to aim for the head.
Also i find accuracy to be really good in Berettas and UMP's. Maybe you can practice with these before moving onto high recoil funs like M4 and LR300's?
