9 years agoMain AdminInstructional information site to create a user.cfg for FPS purposes ===> http://www.bf4only.com/2-battlefield-4-other-news/5-battlefield-4-tweaks-guide-how-to-get-more-performance
QUESTION - Unable to get my user.cfg to work
BF4 is installed on my F-Drive, as my system and Origin is installed on my C-Drive. Per the above mentioned instructions I have my user.cfg in "origin games /battlefield 4". but the config doesn't load. Not really sure what I am doing wrong and or if having BF4 installed on another drive is causing the issue.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

9 years agoLevel 10At first looking at your screenshot I thought it might a comic-sans related system font issue ;-)
But seriously, you are on to something with the permissions. Try checking the file permissions. Right click properties, security tab, and check that both READ and WRITE have a checkmark.
Alternatively, you can try this settings editor that Cougar turned me on to that he heard of from Frog:

Good luck and keep us posted Dank!

Go to Folder and search options then View, turn off 'Hide extensions for known file types'. See what that shows you. -

i did made one 1 week ago same place, same name. You seems to have take care of extension and security so maybe the file is really read but contain a invalid instruction, carriage return ....
I suggest you to save the previous one and make a new one from scratch only with one line perfoverlay.drawfps 1 so you will obviously if it works on screen in game and only with notepad to avoid any format conversion to txt with other editors.
Mine as just perfoverlay.drawfps 1 and it work. After you succeed with a simple file you could add more configurations.

With hide extensions turned on, You may end up with a file like this user.txt.cfg or user.cfg.txt something like that. I think you were on the right track in that your original picture showed a user.cfg file but the type was Rich text format, so you probably had file named user.cfg.rtf. Your 2nd picture shows a 'user' file as a text file, so you actually had user.txt. Not meaning to tell you something you already know, just trying to help. I fought this myself a few days.
Or try what Sleepy says above.
